EDU 330 Elementary Mathematics - Chapters 1 and 2

I agree with the statement "Ultimate, it is you, the teacher, who will shape mathematics for the children you teach.  Your belief about what it means to know and do mathematics and about how children come to make sense of mathematics will affect how you approach instruction."
Many people I know hate or dislike maths because they did not meet the teacher that help them to make sense mathematics thinking and reasoning instead the teacher killed their interest through the drills and plentiful worksheets given.

Teachers are great influence in a child's life.  How and what a child's learn about mathematics depends on the teacher's knowlede of mathematics as well as the teacher's knowledge of each individual child development and learning style.  With a teacher's support and influence, children are encouraged to think, ask questions, solve problems as well as discuss strategies and ideas. The learning of mathematics is about mathematical thinking and reasoning.
